Volunteer and inspire the next generation of storytellers before 826 Day!

Open Opportunity

Positions100 Remaining

826LA is a non-profit writing and tutoring center with four locations: centers in Mar Vista and in Echo Park, and satellite locations at Roosevelt High School and Manual Arts High School. We provide completely free writing and tutoring programs for students, teachers, and schools in our community -- programs that rely on the altruism and help of our amazing group of intergenerational volunteers.

Back to School season is fast approaching. To Prepare, 826LA is on a mission to recruit 100 new volunteers for the first month of programming in the new school year by August 26, or as we like to call it, 826 Day! Volunteers are needed for projects every day of the week (yes, weekends, too!) and in the mornings, afternoons, and evenings. We'd love to get you involved in:

- After School & Evening Tutoring
- Field Trips
- Workshops
- In Schools

All volunteers must attend a Volunteering 101 orientation, get a Live Scan background check, submit a TB test letter of clearance if working in the in-schools program, and fill out a simple application before working with our students. We require no previous teaching experience, just your energy and enthusiasm to turn our sessions into safe, productive, encouraging, and creative environments in which to explore writing, reading, and everything in-between. We'd love to have you!

You can find all Volunteering 101 dates here. Once you decide on a date, please send an RSVP email to
