About

A courtroom is no place for a child. Harsh words, confrontations, possibly even seeing parents in handcuffs -- these are traumatic experiences for young children who have to tag along when family members are involved in court actions.

CourtCare is a free drop-in child care program for children ages six weeks to ten years located in downtown Portland's Multnomah County Courthouse

Join a stimulating, fun childcare facility providing support while parents and guardians go to legal appointments. Enhance the safety and connection for children 6 weeks to 10 years whose family may be experiencing a legal crisis.

Collaborate with our experienced staff to set-up the play area, supervise children of all ages and lead special activities. Beyond this basic childcare, Train to interact with each child in a way that supports their resilience to any trauma they may be experiencing.

Past volunteers have enjoyed how eager the children are to connect with them, and the diverse ages and backgrounds of children they get to meet. If you are consistent, eager to learn, skilled at connecting with children, and enjoy creating new relationships, we'd love to tell you more!

Commit to one half-day a week, Monday-Friday between 8:00-4:30, for a minimum of 3 months to gain valuable skills working with a variety of children and get training in child development and crisis intervention.
