MLK’s Beloved Community: Exploring Black Activism, Creativity, and Resilience in Portland

Saturday, January 25th, 2020 from 9:15am to 5:00pm

About

In observation of the MLK Day of National Service, Portland State, PCC, Reed College, and Oregon Campus Compact invite students, faculty, staff, and community members for a day of discussion, conversation, and engagement that centers the history and narratives of Portland’s Black community during, and around, Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day -- the only national holiday committed to a Black leader.

Acknowledging that the work of the Civil Rights Movement is far from over, this event will bring folks together to support and learn from community-based programming that centers ongoing narratives of Black activism, creativity, and resilience. Join us for this day of engagement, dialogue, and connection with Black-led nonprofits and community interest groups dedicated to community-building and racial justice in the Portland Metro and East County areas.

Overview of the Day
The day will start with a morning of community building and an opening panel exploring contemporary activism in Portland's Black community.
