Mayowa Otuada, University of Alabama at Birmingham School of Nursing
Mayowa is addressing postpartum depression in the Birmingham area by establishing a support group for mothers who screen positive for postpartum depression. In addition to helping mothers decrease anxiety and the feeling of loneliness, the group will incorporate play dates with the babies, engage families and create an environment where mothers could mingle freely and encourage one another. The group aims primarily at promoting women’s mental health, wellness and social wellbeing with the goal of inspiring women empowerment by improving their sense of independence and ability to get through challenges.
