Serve Your City: Stewardship Saturday on the Columbia Slough

Saturday, March 7th, 2020 from 8:30am to 12:30pm (PT)

About

Join Columbia Slough Watershed Council, Portland Parks & Rec, and PSU's Student Community Engagement Center to volunteer your time and energies to help plant native shrubs at Kelley Point Park during this "Serve Your City" project!

Kelley Point Park is located at the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers, and is also where the Columbia Slough meets the Willamette. The park includes over 100 acres of natural areas and developed park amenities (like picnic tables and large grassy fields) and hosts a variety of wildlife, including beavers, otters, deer, ospreys, bald eagles, and the occasional sea lion that has traveled upstream from the ocean. On this day, we will be continuing restoration efforts to improve the riparian area next to the Columbia Slough, which will help improve Slough water quality where young salmon find refuge on their way to the Pacific.

Note that during this project, we will be working off-trail on uneven ground. This event runs rain or shine! Be sure to dress for the weather and bring water, rain gear and sturdy shoes. Snacks, tools, training and gloves will be provided.

The group will meet at PSU at 8:30am and travel together via zipcar to the Kelley Point Park location. Actual project is from 9am - 12pm; if you would like to meet us directly there, please indicate this in your registration. Once we arrive at Kelley Point Park, we will join with many other community members and nonprofit staff at the canoe launch gravel lot, about 300 ft after the turn onto Kelley Point Park Rd.

This project is open to Portland State University students. Come make a big impact on our environment and plant shrubs with fellow PSU students!
