About
Come to the Table is a monthly community meal through partnership of the Somerville Food Security Coalition and Project SOUP, served at the Connexion UMC church. We normally feature live music, a hot, wholesome meal and a pop-up food pantry!
Come to the Table will continue to run, but in lieu of a sit-down dinner and an open pantry, we will be packing to-go containers of hot food and to-go bags of fresh ingredients for our guests to take home. In this way, we aim to protect our volunteers and guests from any possible exposure to COVID-19, while acknowledging that the issue of food insecurity will continue to affect our community, and there are steps we can take to address it.
We are additionally taking several precautions, in thoroughly cleaning and disinfecting all areas before and after the event, practicing social distancing, good hand washing and sanitizing practices and wearing gloves at all times. All volunteers will be asked to take these precautions very seriously, as the population we're serving consists of many individuals at a more significant risk than ourselves.
Volunteers are needed to help with food prep, setting up tables and serving stations, filling to-go containers of food, setting up and overseeing our pop-up food pantry, washing dishes, breaking down tables, serving station and pantry, cleaning and disinfecting at the end of the night.
