Roundtable Coffee Hour

Tuesday, April 13th, 2021 from 9:00am to 10:00am (ET)

About

At this month's coffee hour, we will be hearing from a student group at UGA called Data for Good at UGA.  Data for Good seeks to bring students from across campus together to create data-driven solutions to help create change in our community.  The organization strives to to use data and technology to make a real social impact by supporting local coalitions and movements by using data to identify and study problems in our community.  Representatives of Data for Good will be discussing two of their ongoing projects, the Backpack Project and the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement. The goal of the Backpack Project is to conduct research to find out what items in the backpacks are most needed, and which are not, in order to create more efficient backpacks, allowing for more to be distributed. The Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement is building a web app tool for the Athens Anti-Discrimination Movement Freedom Fund to automate one of the most time intensive parts of their criminal justice efforts. This tool will also be using by other activists looking to help criminal justice efforts.  The Data for Good students will also discuss ways that they can be a resource for local nonprofits through the collection and analysis of data.
