[OCFWS Summer 21] ESL Program Assistant, RIFLI/Providence Public Library

The ESL Program Assistant will support RIFLI’s activities in onboarding new adult ESL students, and do related administrative tasks. Primary duties will include calling prospective ESL students to provide program information, collect registration data, and assess English proficiency; entering data into our student database; and a variety of other administrative tasks. If time permits, the assistant will also work one-on-one or with small groups of ESL learners to provide English conversation practice and tutoring. 

About us: Based at Providence Public Library, Rhode Island Family Literacy Initiative (RIFLI) is a nationally recognized program providing free ESL, citizenship preparation, digital literacy and workforce development education for adults. Our programs have run at libraries around the state since 1994; we provide a supportive and welcoming learning environment for 600 students every year.

Requirement Details

For this position, candidates should be comfortable with calling non-native English speakers on the phone. Also important: Attention to detail in collecting information; interest in working with people from diverse cultures and communities; interest in teaching.
Preferred: Some knowledge of Spanish and/or Portuguese. 

The position provides an opportunity to learn about the daily operations of an established nonprofit, build connections with Rhode Island’s diverse immigrant communities, and gain teaching experience.
