In observation of the MLK Day of National Service, Portland State and PCC invite students, faculty, staff, and community members for a day of discussion, skill building, and service honoring and discovering the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Overview of the Day - 3 Sessions
The day will start with Session 1 - community building and educational workshops focused on the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. After lunch, Session 2 and Session 3 will be opportunities to attend breakout sessions focused on skill building, discussions and/or service opportunities. Service opportunities* will include on campus and off campus options.
*Once you register, you'll be provided with a code to sign up for the service opportunities, space allowing. 

Session I: 9am-1:30pm
  • Check In (Coffee and Donuts sponsored by ASPCC)
  • Community Building and Opening Workshop
  • Lunch (Lunch sponsored by ASPCC)
Session II: 1:30pm-2:20pm
  • Workshop Breakout Session A. Breakout sessions will explore themes of civil rights then and now, local Portland history through the stories and legacy of Vanport, and activism from the eyes of engaged students and alumni. 
  • Service Projects (individual projects will be posted to the Before the Dream group. After your registration has been approved, you will be provided with a special code to sign up for these projects) *some service projects have different start and end times
Session III: 2:30pm-4:30pm*
  • Workshop Breakout Session B. Breakout sessions will explore themes of civil rights then and now, local Portland history through the stories and legacy of Vanport, and activism from the eyes of engaged students and alumni.

How to sign up for Optional Service Projects:
If you sign up for the larger MLK Before the Dream event and indicate an interest in participating in one of the optional service projects during the MLK Before the Dream event, you will be sent a code that will allow you to register for your preferred service project online (see projects & links below), space allowing; note that service projects vary in length and time. Please note that space will be limited and projects will likely fill quickly.
