Alpha Gams at Lafayette are whole-heartedly dedicated to making a difference in our local community in Easton and in the world. We have members in almost all community outreach programs on campus such as various Landis Center programs, ASB trips, Lafapalooza, and America Reads. Here's some information about what we do and why it's important to us:
AGD's international philanthropy is dedicated to raising awareness about hunger and reducing this worldwide dilemma. Millions of individuals, adults and children alike, struggle with hunger each and every day. In fact, studies show that as many as 1 in 7 Americans don't have access to enough food.
There are two main ways AGD works to fight this—service and fundraising. For the former, our sorority takes the initiative to directly give back to our community such as through Alpha Gamma Delta's annual Week of Service in February. This year, our chapter organized a canned food drive for the hungry, volunteered at a local food pantry, crafted Valentine's Day cards for the elderly through Meals on Wheels, and more. Starting in the fall semester, we hope to have every member of AGD volunteer several hours of their time each semester in one of Easton's local food pantries or community gardens.
In addition to these efforts, every week during the school year sisters go to the Boys and Girls Club of Easton to run a program called “Girl's Club.” Here, Alpha Gams lead a group of about fifteen elementary-aged girls in various crafts and games.
