Northeast Family Center

About

Northeast Family Center is a non-profit organization dedicated to serving youth and families in Lincoln. The NFC offers programs and services in early childhood education, youth development, and family support. Through partnerships with agencies such as Heartland Big Brothers/Big Sisters, Lincoln Community Learning Centers, Lincoln Literacy Council, Nebraska Wesleyan University, Lincoln Public Schools, University of Nebraska and more, NFC works to best meet the needs of the Lincoln community. Some ways to get involved at Northeast Family Center include: administrative support (such as filing, answering phones, preparing mailers, special events, etc.), food distribution (weekly program providing perishable and non-perishable food to approximately 160 people at risk of hunger), the Academy of Rock (evening, afterschool and weekend music classes for youth in the Lincoln area), and the Early Learning Center and Pre-school (interact with children in infant, toddler, or preschool classrooms through an academic learning environment, assist director with administrative functions). While serving here, you'll have the opportunity to work with children (6 weeks old to teenagers), minorities and older adults. Students studying music, education, fine arts, early childhood education, and social work majors may be interested. Individuals and groups alike are welcome! Available times and required training vary, depending on which area you volunteer in.
