Ten Thousand Villages is a fair trade store located in downtown Lincoln. The mission of the shop is to create opportunities for artisans in developing countries to earn income by bringing their products and stories to our markets through long-term, fair trading relationships. In-store volunteer tasks include (but are not limited to): assisting our shoppers while providing excellent customer service, sharing the benefits of ethical consumerism and fair trade, ringing sales at the cash wrap, unpacking orders, counting inventory, and maintaining store displays and cleanliness. Offsite/festival sale volunteer tasks include (but are not limited to): packing up and transporting inventory, setting up booth displays at craft fairs, interacting with festival guests, and sharing the benefits of ethical consumerism and fair trade. All volunteers must complete an orientation and training shifts.
Ten Thousand Villages is within walking distance from City Campus. This is an excellent opportunity for multi-cultural studies students. There is a flexible volunteer schedule. There is a required, hour-long orientation for all volunteers. Those who specifically are volunteering for service learning hours will also have to have a 15-20 minute long phone interview before being able to schedule an orientation.
