Youth Leadership America (YLA)

About

Youth Leadership America (YLA) is a non-profit organization founded in 2002 that fosters leadership among high school students. We believe in the power of the youth to effect positive change for themselves and their community. Leveraging local leaders and community resources, YLA offers a 14-week leadership program that gives high school students the necessary tools and real life experiences to become strong leaders in the community. The most unique aspect of the YLA program is that it is planned and led by the prior year's class (Youth Board) because it gives these young leaders the opportunity to practice what they have learned while also showing the incoming class that great leadership is within reach.

Our motto is that "leaders are made, not born." Using the city as a classroom, we serve youth by bringing them in contact with the community and we serve the community by bringing it in contact with its youth. In our experience, the students bring the dreams and passion to the table and community leaders bring the pragmatism and know-how. We play the role of the matchmaker.
