Today's volunteering was more busy than in the past few weeks but I really felt that my work was valuable and meant something which was really rewarding. Seeing as this is my 2nd year in this unit I feel so comfortable with the nursing staff and its awesome to feel apart of their team even if my work is minor!
My role in Wendel 1 of Martha Jefferson is mainly administrative: helping answer the phones, assisting the nurses with anything they need, etc. It seems like such a menial role but the nurses really appreciate it which makes your time spent there worth it. The hardest thing about the work is wanting to be of more help since the ICU is usually understaffed and very busy but not having any training or ability to help them in bigger ways. It is also hard seeing family members suffering for their loved ones.
