SFFA went to Alder Elementary's Career Day and presented Fire Safety to 3 Kindergarten classes. Our volunteers represented PCC's Fire Protection and Technology program while presenting a Junior Firefighter learning curriculum that involved Captain Smiths educational directives and supplies. This was a success in achieving tangible teaching points within our 20 minute window of opportunity with each class.

Shop with a Firefighter was a big event from start to finish. Walmart granted our club with $2,500.00 to use the money to support young students from King Elementary in North East Portland. This was our clubs fourth year working with King Elementary Councilors who pick out students who are in financial need of assistance. Christmas of 2018 we were able to support 20 kids by giving each of them $100 gift card and a special experience to shop with a fire fighter. Our work force came out strong that was comprised of Fire Skills Academy students, volunteers from various fire departments, and we even got the huge support from PF&R bringing their station 22 truck and engine companies. Many families were touched with Christmas spirit and its was a rewarding experience for the volunteers to understand the importance in making a difference in young peoples lives as community servants.

SFFA made a Christmas Giving Tree and placed it in front of Hayden Meadows Walmart in North Portland to support a very special selection of Boise Eliot Elementary students. Our club reached out to Boise Eliot's school councilor to get names of students who are in the schools food assistance program. Our goal was to put a Christmas present in each of the families December food boxes. We supported 18 young children by making name tags to decorate the Giving Tree. The tree was out to the public for first two weeks of December. With the community support we fulfilled every tag! This was indeed beautifully executed by everyone involved from our club, ASPCC, the community buying presents, Walmart, and Boise Eliot's PTA and administration.
